Over the Edge Rappelling Fundraiser Comes to Palmetto Marriott in May 2026

Participants will rappel 92 feet to raise money for charity.

A new fundraiser is coming to Palmetto this spring, and it’s bringing a little height to local philanthropy. The Salvation Army of Manatee County is hosting its first annual “Over the Edge” event at the Palmetto Marriott Resort & Spa, inviting participants to rappel 92 feet down the side of the building to raise money for children and families experiencing homelessness in our community.

The goal is to raise $100,000 to support the organization’s homeless children and family shelter, along with programs focused on child hunger and housing stability across Manatee County.

How “Over the Edge” works

This signature event partners with Over the Edge, a professional rappelling company that safely guides participants down the side of the building. In order to secure a spot on the ropes, each participant pays a $100 registration fee and commits to raising a minimum of $1,000 by May 20, 2026.

Fundraising is structured as a peer-to-peer effort. Participants create their own personalized webpage, complete with a photo and information about why they’re taking part. Friends, family members, coworkers, and local supporters can donate directly through that page.

There is no age limit to participate, and the weight limit is 300 pounds.

Those who prefer to stay on the ground can still take part by donating, sponsoring a participant, or cheering on the rappelers during the event.

Event details

The event spans two days and takes place at 6001 US Highway 41 in Palmetto.

  • Friday, May 22 - the VIP Kickoff Party runs from 3 PM to 7 PM. Media personalities, dignitaries, and top sponsor rappelers will take their turn descending the building.

  • Saturday, May 23 - the public is invited to come watch the rappelling from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Registration is available through the official event page or by visiting salvationbradenton.org and clicking on the EVENTS section.

Where the money goes

Proceeds directly support the work of The Salvation Army of Manatee County, which has served this area since 1923. The organization operates a children and family homeless shelter that houses an average of 30 to 40 children and their families at any given time.

Funds also support daily meals, clothing, housing assistance, and the Pathway of Hope program. In addition, The Salvation Army provides after-school programs, a summer youth camp, rent and utility assistance, and disaster relief during hurricanes and floods.

Monday through Friday, from 5 PM to 5:30 PM, the organization offers a community dinner that includes a protein, starch, vegetable, drink, and dessert for anyone in need.

Community support and sponsorship

Halfacre Construction Company has signed on as the Presenting Sponsor for this inaugural event. Additional sponsorship packages are available for businesses interested in supporting the cause.

Participants can register as individual rappelers, form teams with colleagues or friends, donate directly, or attend to show support.

This first “Over the Edge” event brings a new fundraising concept to Manatee County, pairing a bold physical challenge with meaningful local impact. Don't miss your chance to watch dozens of residents literally step over the edge to help keep children fed, families sheltered, and hope alive close to home.
