A New Local Favorite: Flamingo Bay Brewing Lands in Bradenton

It's family-owned, family-friendly, and has great beer!

After much anticipation, Flamingo Bay Brewing Co. has officially opened its doors in Bradenton. What started as a "coming soon" tease in early 2023 has finally become a vibrant neighborhood spot where locals can gather, unwind, and enjoy a thoughtful lineup of drinks in a relaxed, welcoming space.

A Long-Awaited Vision Becomes Reality

Owners Tom and Christine moved to Bradenton from Chicago and spent the last couple of years turning their vision into a reality. With 13 years of homebrewing experience under his belt, Tom brings a hands-on, flavor-forward approach to the brewery's offerings.

Tom says he first fell in love with traditional brewing styles during a trip to Germany. "I've always had a passion for history, and beer," Tom said. "Being able to taste beers from breweries founded in the 1000s was incredible. When I got home, I started brewing my own because I couldn't find anything like it."

After nearly two decades brewing at home, a move to Florida gave Tom and Christine the perfect chance to pursue the dream. With three young boys in tow, the Fakos knew they wanted to create something welcoming, playful, and community-centered.

Located at 1910 14th St. in Bradenton, the space features a laid-back indoor vibe and a large beer garden out back. With outdoor games, TVs, and space for birthday parties or casual afternoons, it's designed to be family-friendly without feeling fussy.

While the renovation process took longer than expected, the result is a space poised to be a true community hangout with plenty of room for friends, families, and first-time visitors.

What's On Tap

Flamingo Bay Brewing Co. offers a rotating selection of house-brewed beers, including a Mexican lager, hefeweizen, hazy IPA, brown ale, cream ale, and seltzer cocktails. You'll also find guest taps from other craft brewers, a few domestic classics, wine, and non-alcoholic options. So there's something for everyone, even if you're not a beer drinker.

Not sure what to try first? Go with the hefeweizen - it's brewed entirely with German ingredients, down to the Munich-style water profile Tom painstakingly recreated using brewing salts and reverse osmosis water.

"I love making beers that match their origins, whether that's using U.S. ingredients for an American-style IPA or German grains and hops for a traditional brew," Tom says. "It's a craft, and it's deeply satisfying."

Community-Focused Plans

Beyond great beer, Flamingo Bay Brewing is planning a full calendar of community events, including trivia nights (Thursdays), live music, and bingo. Plus, maybe even some fun classes. Tom and Christine say they want their space to feel like a place where people can hang out, relax, and be part of the local vibe.

While the brewery doesn't have a kitchen, food trucks will rotate through the beer garden, and guests are encouraged to support nearby spots like San Remo's (next door) and Willy-Yums (across the street). "Bring your lunch, bring your friends! We want this to feel like your backyard," Christine says.

Oh, and if you're a musician or groups interested in hosting events can reach out directly to them at flamingobaybrewingco@gmail.com.
